The Social Good Summit Australia is a celebration of the Sustainable Development Goals and their potential to fulfil the promise of creating a better world by 2030. Founder Catia Davim mobilises individuals to get involved, get connected and take action to realise the 2030 Agenda.

#2030 Now

AR: Thanks for joining us, Catia Davim! What was the deciding factor behind the theme of #2030 Now?

CD: We have a master plan to change the world which is envisioned in the Global Goals for 2030. It is an invitation for individuals to consider their contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals.

AR: You are making an important contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals through your work. Can you tell me about the world you want to live in by 2030?

CD: 2030 should look like a world where people can come together and work together to preserve social cohesion. 2030 should be a place where no one is left behind and where we can achieve better outcomes for everybody.

It is a world where we can enjoy natural resources and enjoy equal opportunities for everybody. It’s a place where everybody has the right to experience the wonders of this planet and where there is plenty for everybody.

Better Outcomes for All

AR: Was founding the Social Good Summit a reflection of the world you want to live in by 2030?

CD: It was founded based on the idea that I should be doing something about the Sustainable Development Goals. We need to make a decision in our life that are centred on being good global citizens.

I wanted to create a platform which acts as a voice for silent achievers and brings to light the individual contributions from good people making an impact in their part of the world.

I thought it would be a good idea to showcase the stories of the heroes of the world who can inspire more people along the way.

AR: Why are you interested in showcasing the silent achievers of the world?

CD: I think we need to start believing that nothing is small. You start small but then you keep growing and growing until it becomes bigger. Social ventures and non-profits who make an impact in their communities are important.

The process of finding ways to achieve better social outcomes starts small and it’s a non-stop journey. The potential for achieving positive social outcomes is enormous, small initiatives can grow global.

Starting Small and Growing Global

AR: I find it interesting that you mention the importance of starting small. Did the Social Good Summit start small?

CD: It started in my head, I wanted to bring like-minded people together. The first meeting was a conversation, where a few people were meant to come along.

When we had the conversation more publically at the first Social Good Summit in 2015, we thought we would have 50 people around the table and it would be an interesting day of discussion. That year, we got close to 300 people and since then we have experienced exponential growth.

We have since built a community of about 5,000 people and more than 100 speakers. We are transforming into a truly connected global platform which can inspire people to do more.

AR: Communiteer has been a proud supporter of the Social Good Summit and Catia Davim for a long time. What are your thoughts on the partnership with Communiteer?

CD: The Social Good Summit is about making people understand that they can make a difference no matter where they are, no matter what they are doing and no matter where they come from.

They can make a difference in their communities, in their workplace and in their own lives. While the Social Good Summit aspires for people to take action, Communiteer brings life to what we aspire to and brings life to opportunities.

It is a platform which connects like-minded people and helps them identify opportunities to make a difference.

AR: What are you looking forward to this year?

CD: One of the things that inspires me is the comments afterwards and the feedback from people who are engaged with creating a better world and need something more from themselves.

It restores my hope when I can reignite their passion for life, when there is an avenue for them to seek inspiration and become invested in making a difference.

Thank you for joining us, Catia Davim, and sharing your purpose story!
